Venison S.O.S.

What does S.O.S. stand for? Save our ship? Actually, shit on shingles. I have also heard creamed corned chip beef on toast referred to as such, but this is what we are referring to in my family when we talk about S.O.S.

This recipe comes from my gram, who grew up as the daughter of a share cropper and loved songs and story telling. I loved to hear her stories of stoning ground hogs to death for dinner on the way home from school to please her dad and her family putting her newborn baby brother in the oven to keep him warm in their drafty house.

Prep time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • Wide egg noodles
  • 1 lbs ground venison
  • 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 block cream cheese
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Cook noodles according to directions on bag.

Brown venison in a pan or pot. Add sliced mushrooms and cook until softened. Add soup (do not add water) and cream cheese block. Cook until cream cheese melts and a thick sauce is created. Serve over noodles.
